Excerpt Review: Vengeful (Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab

”He closed his eyes, brought his head to rest against the tile wall, and smiled, Eli’s voice echoing through his head.

‘You can’t win.’

But he had.”

Happy book birthday to VENGEFUL!

Today is the official release date of the second installment in the Villains series. I have to say, it has been a while since I was so excited for a book, even though I only recently read VICOUS, it is ridiculous! You can read my review of VICIOUS here.

I am really excited to read this, but I have to wait for my copy as it is expected to arrive the 11th of October. But to soothe the pain, I read the excerpt of Vengeful in the back of my copy of Vicious, a short story that was in it aswell. Apparently, there was more in the online excerpt, so I read that too, ofcours. I am going to give my thoughts on both the excerpt and short story! My thoughts on the excerpt may be seen as a bit spoilery, but it is free to read for everyone here and basically the first X amount of chapters in the book. You can read the excerpt here.

The first part of the excerpt introduces a bunch of new characters. You don’t encounter any of the people we know, but I recognised the name Marcella, one of the new characters Victoria already hinted on Twitter. I am not going into much detail about it as you can read for yourself, but the excerpt shows you how she (probably) became an EO. The rest is how the story goes on after Victor was resurrected by Sydney. Nothing really happens, but it is full of tension and unspoken emotiond and it highly suggests things will be happening right after the excerpt stops and DAMN I am even more excited for this gem!

The excerpt in my copy of Vicious is only the little bit about Marcella, but honestly, both endings of the excerpts are nerve wrecking. It doesn’t soothe any excitement, it only creates more. A whole lot more. Bravo, Victoria. Bravo.

The short story was really short, only a few pages long. There wasn’t any title and I didn’t think it was a short story in the Villains universe, but it became clear after a page. I am not going to say too much, but it is set in the time Eli was still hunting EO’s. It is so mysterious, the story just gives enough details to make sense, but not enough to soothe your curiosity. It is beautiful. I don’t know what it is called, but it is in the back in the newest Vicious hardcover for sure.

I hope I can survive waiting two more weeks and just finish readings the books I need to review and just get lost in this world again. Victoria, I trust you. I want to be wrecked at the end.

  1. I haven’t read Vicious yet, I really, really need to hurry up and get into it!!! I was going to buy it last time I was at the book shop but it wasn’t there. At least I will be able to read both of the books one after the other!!!

  2. I’m still stuck on a waitlist for Vicious, so I’m behind on this one. T_T If I don’t manage to get the book by next month, I suppose I’ll just have to order both Vicious and Vengeful at the same time and read them together. 😉 I’m so excited to read them, because they totally sound like my type of books! Waiting is hard. I hope your copy comes a bit earlier than expected. 😉
